Real Life Continues

We picked up the grandkids from school yesterday. They had an early out because of PT conferences.  Went for lunch at a place called Betty's Burgers at the request of #1 grandson and then down to an area they call the hook in Santa Cruz. Watched a bunch of surfers waiting to catch just that perfect wave.  Hubby was living vicariously. He was remembering when he was one of those blonde California surfer dudes shooting the curl (at least that is what it used to be called.)  Of course, that is why he has two titanium knees today but what the heck he had fun back then.

Our oldest grandson is 12 and is quite the navigator.  He was better than the GPS getting us around the area.  The younger one is a bundle of energy that cannot be contained.  OMG between talking and moving you get exhausted just being near.  Love them both to death.

There is a place near called Corralitos Market and apparently people come from miles around to buy their sausage.  I am not a big sausage fan but we tried some and I must admit it was delicious.  We had three different kinds and I can see why it is so popular.  Hubby plans on packing some in the freezer before we get out of here.

On Monday, the plan is to drive into Monterey, see how much has changed, walk around Cannery Row and have lunch, either at one of our favorite old haunts like the Sardine Factory (because according to hubby they make the best Clams Casino in the world) or try someplace new (wanna take any bets). The kids will be in school so we will save the Monterey Aquarium for when they can join us.

Well I am exhausted from trekking to all the sporting events of the last couple of days so I am going to sit back, read a little and then off to dreamland.

See you later for more Aimless Ramblings.

  1. Boys of twelve can do anything. They have completely conquered the world as they know it.
Soon their world will expand and they will have lots of problems keeping up with the changing world.
But for now, it is their world and they reign.
Have I ever told you I'm sort of jealous about your travels? OK add, being jealous about the fabulous grandkids!
    But I'm working on it.

  3. This is all so cool - traveling, being with family and then being able to get back to just the two of you to recharge. You better believe I'm jealous! Keep having fun!

  4. It all sounds fantastic. The kids will cherish those memories as well. My kids talk about memories and moments with their grandparents I would never have thought made an impression.
The simple things are the most precious. Lucky you!

    1. I hope they remember. I do remember spending time with my grandparents - but girls are different. All we can do is love them.

  6. What lucky Grandkids you have Sunny, it must be so much fun for them as well, spending time with Grandma and Grandpa. I know what you mean about kids though, I had one of our nieces kids the other day, she is just 2 years old, and I ran all day. She was just so busy I was all in when her Mummy came to pick her up. :D Lots of fun, for sure - but wow, eat your wheaties.

  7. Love that area! Enjoy the time with your grandsons. I spoke to my MIL this morning while our little one was on the driving range- she had me sending her real time video of him hitting the balls... I know she really wanted to be with him.

  9. Don't I know it. That's why this RV thing is so much better for us. Will get to see them more often. The oldest is 12 and considering he was just born yesterday, it way too fast. We've missed so much already - I want this time to count.
