Happy New Year. At least it's almost New Years here. Of course, for some of you the calendar has already turned. We're back from our visit to California. What a great time but time moves entirely too fast. It seemed as if we just arrived when it was time to leave. Although it was terrific to be there and I hated to leave, it's good to be home. Lots of food, fun, and lack of sleep begins to take a toll on this old lady. I refuse to get on the scale until Friday, my usual weigh-in day to see what kind of damage has been wreaked. We were always busy but exercise wasn't always a priority and those cookies, candies and adults beverages add up and usually equate to poundage. I wouldn't have changed it for the world.
My grandsons are turning into grand men - luckily for all of us our youngest is a lovable guy and still gives great hugs and doesn't mind getting them either. Hope that never changes. The oldest is now taller than me and is a teenager in every sense of the word and is driving our daughter crazy. Our son-in-law copes very well. I guess he's more used to being around teenagers as he is a high school principal and used to surliness. lol
They are happily settled in their new digs and their life is as busy as ever. Almost every single minute of every day is scheduled with some kind of chore or activity. My daughter goes all out for Christmas and I don't think there was one single place that didn't have some kind of Christmassy item on display. She has always been a good cook and always trying new recipes and this time was no exception. She made this potato dish that was out of this world. I thought I died and went to heaven. Calorie laden, of course, but that's what made it good. Then, her niece made this sweet potato casserole that could be dessert. Friday is not going to be good.
Ray and I loved being by the water and it was as beautiful as ever. Mostly sunny, but chilly and nighttimes downright cold. On the day after Christmas, daughter joined us for breakfast at the wharf and then went off to brave the after Christmas crowds. Ray sat on the bluff enjoying a cigar while I walked to an area called Pleasure Point and watched the hardy souls trying to catch a wave. It was a beautiful afternoon. We were able to spend another day with all but the oldest grandson at Half Moon Bay on Sunday. SIL was the only one who had been there before and he said we caught the one sunny day - glad we did, it was perfect as long as the sun shone, once it started it's slide toward the water, it got downright cold.
That's my recap of the week. I tried keeping abreast of all of you, but didn't have much computer time. Now it's back to work because I don't have a story for next Monday yet.
I hope you all have a very happy and safe new year's eve and that the year is filled with all you desire.
See you all later for more Aimless Ramblings. Hoping for some fireworks which were pushed on the back burner for the whole week. No rosy red cheeks of any kind.
Happy New Year, Leigh

DeleteHi Sunny, glad you had such a wonderful Christmas time with all the family. It sounds just the way it should be, being together with the family, teenagers, time to relax, calories from food to die for. Keeping fingers crossed for Friday (I have avoided weighing myself this week, because the result will be a disaster).
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful and happy new year.
hugs
Nina
Thanks NiNa for your great wishes.
DeleteThe scale may break tomorrow - but it will all have been worth whatever it says.
Happy New Year to you and yours and look forward to 2015.
Your grandsons will be men with kid of their own before I get any! Well maybe not, but I remain jealous. Your trip sounds wonderful, but I you seem content to settle back down to real life. I hope 2015 is your best year yet!

DeleteSounds like a wonderful holiday week, Sunny! :) LOL it made me laugh when you talked about your teen grandson and his dad the principal! That has to be a load off your daughter. Those teen years- gotta love em! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you and Ray did some fine eating. Well, that is what happens during holidays and it sure is meant to be enjoyed. So good for you! If you aren't happy with what you see on that scale of yours, then just give it time, it will come off with post holiday, back to normal routines. Our counter is still covered with chocolates, and cookies and all the rest of the yummy stuff around.
I look forward to what you write in the coming year! And I hope that Ray rings in the New Year with some of those very own fireworks that you have in mind! :D Many hugs and love,
<3 Katie
Katie, it was wonderful, a whirlwind but so worth it. We were able to get in some fireworks today - very nice.
