Yesterday, I joined the ranks of millions. I finally came out of the dark ages and got my first smart phone. It's taught me something already. I'm not very smart.
I was perfectly happy with my old phone. I could talk and text - I didn't need all that other stuff. However fate stepped in and when we were in Galveston I laundered my old phone. It didn't like it at all. Unfortunately for me, I relinquished my upgrade to my grandson at Christmas and wasn't eligible for a new phone and would have had to pay a ridiculous amount of money unless I waited. Instead I bought a 'burner' phone and some minutes to get me through the crisis.
For someone who isn't very techo, a smart phone can render you stupid in no time at all. Others, my nephew who, of course, is of the techo generation, assured me I would become smart with a week or so. He ran through about six thousand things I could do with my new phone. So far, I know how to call, text, retrieve messages and take a picture. At least I think so. Not bad for me. He downloaded a flashlight - I guess so I could see what I am or am not doing.
Just hope I remember all those things tomorrow when trying to meet up with PK in the airport. Wish me/her luck.
See you later for more Aimless Ramblings.
You and PK are meeting up, that is so awesome. I still haven't figured out my phone. I just use the applications I know how to use or need. Have fun and don't feel stupid, the whole purpose of the smart phone is to make us look dumb
ReplyDeleteThanks Blondie for the tip and the good wishes for a great time.
DeleteThe best thing about smart phones is auto correct. ENDLESS embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait. :)
DeleteMy 11 year old has to help me still and I've had this for 8 months now. Good luck. And have fun with PK.
ReplyDeleteGoing to need the good luck, Is your 11 year old available for hire?
DeleteThanks for stopping by.
I upgraded my very plain very useful phone a month ago. I could not answer the first time Master called. and last week set the alarm for 4:30 AM to bring a friend to the airport.....could not shut it off.
ReplyDeletehugs abby
Don't say that, I'm relying on the alarm to get me up tomorrow.
Deletehave a safe and fun trip :-) Can't help you with the iphone...don't have one but I have had an Itouch for a couple of years and still don't know how to use it very well... :-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteThanks Terps. It is a learning experience.
DeleteI am not techy but I love my phone. As you fiddle with it you will learn more and more! I do have help now and again... Ahem. I just ask the 19 yr old or the 21 yr old. If all else fails I guess and freak!!
ReplyDeleteLucky ladies, wish I was coming with! Fun times ahead! Earn some OTK time! Lol
I'm sure I will, but right now it is a little daunting.
DeleteWish you were too.
I am not sure what actually a smartphone is. I hope you have a lovely time together, wish I was coming.
ReplyDeletelove Jan.xx
Oh my word I just asked my son and he said my phone is a smart phone!! It hasn't got a very smart operator though has it?
DeleteOMG, I'm still laughing. That would so be me.
Deletea smartphone is a mobile phone that has a touch screen, media player, camera, GPS, web browser and Wi-FI.
Deletein simpler terms:
can you browse the web on it?
does it have a camera?
does it have a touchscreen?
does the screen cover 80% or more of the phones surface?
can you download apps on it?
does it have one central button that brings you to the homescreen?
did it cost 70$ or more?
if you answered yes to most of these you most likely have a smartphone
I have a smart phone and Mollie has me almost comfortable with it and she has almost talked Nick into getting one. If all else fail we walk through the airport shouting 'Marco' , 'Polo' until we find one another.
ReplyDeleteLMBO. Are you Marco or Polo. See you tomorrow.
DeleteI have an Iphone and IPad and love them both. Then again computers are what I work on everyday. Have fun with PK. Amyee
ReplyDeleteThanks Amyee. I know we will have fun. I'm pretty sure I'll eventually love the phone too, but right now it scares me because it's smarter than me.
DeleteWell congrats on getting a new phone. The more you use it, the easier it will get. Before you know it, you'll wonder what you ever did without it.
ReplyDeleteHave fun tomorrow!!!!
Thanks Sarah. That's what everyone tells me, I can't wait. I
DeleteThanks.
Ugh! I can totally relate on the smart phone thing. I think I'm starting to catch on to mine though....
ReplyDeleteHope you have a totally wonderful time with PK!! Can't wait to hear all about it! :)
Congratulations on the phone! As long as you can make and receive calls you're doing fine. I did manage to take a photo and set it as the wallpaper on mine, but still have lots to learn. Wishing you and PK the best time ever!
ReplyDeleteOh Sunny...I think whoever coined the term "smart phone" was trying to make everyone feel stupid...and I do. I went online and downloaded a user manual for my phone so whenever I want to know how to do something, I look it up in the manual.
ReplyDeleteYou and PK are going to have so much fun...just let us know if we need to collect bail money. LOL
Hugs and Blessings...

Hi Sunny, I'm convinced the purpose of the smart phone is to make us look stupid lol. I do love my smart phone and still haven't learnt the half of what it can do! LOL at Jan's comment! (sorry Jan :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time with PK. You two are going to have so much fun. So happy for you both :)
Hugs,
Roz
It's so true! Our kids are growing up with computers hooked right into their veins so it comes naturally to them. Have a great trip seeing PK!
